Sorry about how terrible this is ):
I've never really redlined anything before, but I think that's what the arm should look like, although you could angle it down more to go more along with were you intended for her to be pointing.

The arm was just a little long is all.

(Original by snore_police)

snore_police Wednesday, November 30th 2011, 9:45 AM
No, this is great! Thanks for your help I like that it gives the figure below her arm a little more room (because I need to more her a little more).

Sooo I was working on this then I found out art finals are next week! So I am just going to save this here for now.

Anyways there is a problem with the pirates arm that is stretching out and I'm not sure what it is yet... if anyone would like to red line that would be awesome!

And I also am not sure what to put in the back of the boat yet.... I thought about treasure but it would clash with the gold robot.

(this isn't quite finished, but Crits are welcome!)

aiko-sama Wednesday, November 30th 2011, 1:43 AM
It looks like the robots extended hand is too big.... or at least thats all I can see. This is brilliant.

Seijimon Wednesday, November 30th 2011, 4:29 AM
i think the arm gets a little too big after the armband/coufling thing compared to the part of the arm before the band. ehhh idk if that made sense...
Anyways, i really enjoy your illustrations, the way you highlight and light stuff is awesome!

snore_police Wednesday, November 30th 2011, 9:48 AM
Thanks guys! K so I need to work more on the robot hand and watch the arm thickness of the pirate. Glad you guys like how its going so far.

usually a bunch of users sign on at once then its dead for 3-4 months then they come back to vote on a tryout then they disappear again...

the one thing i love bout trying out her is that i always come up with new ideas!
also, i forgot how much i loved green, lotsa fun

i guess this is my 1st tryout since i nvr ended up doing a third.

Prince Abooboo Saturday, November 26th 2011, 6:52 AM
Honestly I don't know why anyone ever said third, because your first was so awesome and the second was intermediate at the least.

ANYWAYS. I like this soooooo much. It's really freaking adorable. The only thing i would say to do differently next time is color more inside the lines (which isn't even really a critique because I like the use of coloring in this) and make a more, I guess, detailed background? I personally don't care about the background because I think this fits the picture, but for future reference. Like I said on nas's tryout, the background rules here are very vague :0

Seijimon Saturday, November 26th 2011, 7:19 AM
thank youuuuu, im pretty impatient for crits! so thanks for commenting so early :]!
I didn't really think my last tryouts were all that bad either but y'know, its all up to u guys, nothing i can do about it xP
And Yes, definitely gonna spend more time tidying up my 2nd tryout, this is pretty messy i must admit xD

Prince Abooboo Saturday, November 26th 2011, 7:23 AM
It's still really cute! The messy seems sort of intentional, and not lazy though... OR AT LEAST THAT'S HOW I SEE IT. Like when things I draw are messy, it's because I'm being lazy. And you can tell. Here it seems like it was on purpose. ALTHOUGH, WHO KNOWS. I could be completely wrong and you may have just not wanted to deal with coloring.

Anywhosit, good luck! I would love to see more of your art on this board!

imbreum Saturday, November 26th 2011, 11:07 PM
for your next tryout, i'd recommend you do something cleaner. just, tryouts are supposed to be to the best of your ability, and i don't think this really compares to your last time's attempts. something more detailed with SUPER INTENSE SHADING and crap, cuz that seems to be the universal idea of super tryout. i really enjoy the colors in this one, and the dude kind of reminds me of dragon ball z for some reason. for a minute i thought he was in frosting, but I SEE HE IS IN A FLOWER with a really tiny snake? AND I LIKE IT A LOT I just don't really think it's very tryout-y? yeah sorry my crits suck, especially cuz i like this kind of art more than the detailed intense kind usually, but ANYWAY GOOD LUCK i'm shutting up YEAH

Seijimon Sunday, November 27th 2011, 3:37 AM
well the snake can be tiny or huge, kinda like jake from adventuretime i suppose... ya ive been kinda in a messy oekaki faze, but ill try clean it up for #2. thx for the crits yo!

okay so some things that i noticed while i was redlining:

the head is proportionally far too small for the rest of the body, and the face is not placed correctly on the head. i tried to redline an example of what i mean, but a combination of paintBBS (which i haven't used since like '06) and a turkey coma were preventing me. also the neck is tapered strangely. it starts out very thin at the top and just slopes out into shoulders. necks taper a bit, but don't tend to look quite like that

the (viewer's) left arm is at an odd angle. i figured that she was supposed to be walking based on the footprints, but i am not 100% sure? when you are swinging your arm while you're walking you don't really cock it inward toward your body. you just let it hang and it with perspective the hand should be smaller than the (viewer's) right one that is lifted toward her face.

as for the positioning of the legs, i again went with the assumption that she is walking. the legs were too close together and positioned at odd angles. the ones i drew are not the best representations of feet in motion, but i was running out of room. look up photo references for a better idea, but one should definitely be in front of the other. i put the one in the rear slightly lifted as if preparing to take another step.

lastly the clothing seems very awkward to me, and it's wrapped far too tightly around her body. in addition the folds that you've drawn don't look like they flow naturally.

my vote is out. if you feel like this is crap, then maybe you don't feel like you are ready to be trying out in the first place. i like that you are interested in experimenting, as it's a great way to grow and learn!

if it helps at all, this was my reference; http://www.posemaniacs.com/archives/227
i changed the angle of it

Seijimon Sunday, November 27th 2011, 1:58 PM
i think its also pretty important to get the rotation right,
nomatter how i rotate the pose, the upper part of her body is rotated a little more to the left.
