ahmm I'm gonna have to say third, because over all your composition is rather...undefined? the face is strong and defined but then when you get to the body there doesn't really look like there's bones underneath all that skin--if that makes sense. He seems to be made out of really vague shapes, nothing has any sort of weight to it, like the pants. There's no pulling for his leg that's propped up, and no flattening of the leg that's on the floor.

The colors are also very light, which is okay, but there's no real contrast among them. The shadows look like they're just a slightly darker hue of the base color instead of a completely different one contrast with it better? They also need to be a lot darker.

Over all the picture just doesn't feel like a finished piece to me, but looking at your other stuff I really think you're capable of doing better.

This other picture you were working on feels much more solid and significant to me: http://sroekaki.net/oekaki/pictures/90314.png

AAH THIS IS REALLY LOVELY aah aaaah oh gosh

um yeah i'm going to say third too, you're almost there you just need to bring the picture together a little better

but good luck!! you can do it!!

you've got a really cute style, but I'd so much love to see something a bit more.. defined
sure it's a watercolor-painty style, but even with watercolor you can work without color bleeds and with proper shading
I vote third as well.. so please, give it your all, because you definately have skills
good luck!

i dont know anything about chinese lion anatomy so...heres some shadows!

i liked the idea a lot, i think the only thing it could use is some more contrast in the shdaows and highlights.

My hand hurts after this one. xD

I really hope it's all right. xP

For redlining, this is based on a shih tzu/chinese lion.

i think one of the main problems with this one is that, unlike your first tryout, you don't get a feeling of three-dimensionality. It feels very flat, no sense of foreground, middle ground, and background at all. I feel like the foreground was a flat drawing pasted on the flat background. my other issue is the messiness of your coloring, without much variation in tones. i think you should practice with your shading, using the blackest of blacks for the darkest areas. don't be afraid to go too dark. also don't necessarily use a darker shade of a color to be the shadow. Experiment with colors and the way they bounce off each other. i also think you should play around with the tools a little bit more and then try again. so for now i'm going to vote out.

kinu Monday, December 19th 2011, 11:03 PM
Seeing as no one else has anything to say, I'll be back in a couple months. Thanks for the pointers! :)

The white highlights seem a little sloppy in some spots (on the legs, mostly), but I really like your choice in lighting here. I'm interested to see what you do for your next tryout.

imbreum Thursday, December 15th 2011, 1:05 AM
avatar
i agree with everything dogmatic said
i actually think the image would be more interesting if you didn't have the sun in the picture. like if the lighting remained the same, but you couldn't see the sun. and i love the vibrancy of your colors.
i also think your anatomy could use some tweaking, but i'm not good with animal anatomy, so i'll leave the redlining to someone else.
good luck on your next tryout!

kinu Thursday, December 15th 2011, 1:47 AM
I do think that removing the sun would make this stronger. Thanks!

If anyone would like to redline this, I based this off of a whippet.

thank you guys.
i actually hate petsites now, biggest investment of time and waste of time in my life.

i cant form proper sentences so bear with me, lol.
but yeah- i have tried to get out of the petsite crap so i can focus on real jobs like designing for bands and what not.
doing some stuff for the band/viral band called pinn panelle

just cant stand the petsites anynmore boohohoho
