Boring character portrait is booooring. And that's why this one has been sitting in safety saves for a couple of days even though it's been finished for a good while already.
It's been a while since the last time I studied my characters' faces so carefully. I'll probably do at least a few more of these because it's surprisingly relaxing to just paint simple portraits for a change. :/
Alexander is an old-fashioned gentleman who owns an inn with his wife and is intrigued by abnormal things, mostly by occult related items and unusual people with warped bodies or minds. He loves to sit down in the lounge with the guests, offer them a cup of tea and really get to know them, learn their stories.

Loving that awesome pattern in the bg. :3
Saturday, April 9th 2011, 5:16 PM
This reminds me of old church art ^_^ (which means I like it a lot!!!)
Monday, April 4th 2011, 12:00 AM
A little test with b&w painting, darker skin tones and a bit more expressive face. I should be sleeping but I'm too inspired to sleep, you probably know what I'm talking about. :P

Wednesday, April 6th 2011, 2:29 AM
fff how do you do those awesome patterns?? they look like a pre-patterned thing they're so pretty and this is so pretty I love your art so much <3
Wednesday, April 6th 2011, 12:33 PM
Thanks for all the comments again, you lovely people <3
, those patterns are really easy to make :D It's not a secret so here's a quick explanation: Start by drawing the first piece of the pattern, I prefer damask and floral shapes like in old wallpapers, then copy, layer, rotate and flip it to create a cross-shape. Merge the cross-shape into a one layer piece, and then just copy and paste it all around. :) You can usually see the progress of the pattern in the animations of my drawings quite well, so you might want to check them out too if it interests you. I hope that helps!

Character for a tabletop RPG. A high class whiny bitch who appears to be quite good of an archer and who ran away from his glamorous royal life to find an
Yeah, I got really lazy when it was time to finish the background and the bow... sorry about that.
List of the references, because whenever I'm drawing anything that takes over 4 hours I tend to use a huge stack of reference pictures. I'm sorry these aren't properly linked to their respective sources, but I found these all on google images and just tossed the links in here so I could easily access them again when continuing. So yeah, in case anyone's interested how I build my pictures ;)
overall idea inspiration

<3 that hair
Sunday, April 3rd 2011, 7:06 AM
oh whoo, hello there. It's amazing all the detail here! The roughness like on the coat and the vines(?) on his vest, super awesome
Sunday, April 3rd 2011, 8:07 PM
i really love the way you paint, and all the detail you put into your work. but i can't help but notice how static the faces are a lot of the time. i would like to see a bit more emotion behind the pretty eyes and faces you draw.
Sunday, April 3rd 2011, 8:56 PM
, you're right, I didn't even notice that :o It's been really hard for me to learn to draw expressions and mostly I practice them in my pencil sketches, I completely forgot I could try to paint them in oekaki too. ^^; I'll definitely try it soon. Thank you~
And thanks to you all who have left all the lovely comments in my other pics too, they always make me so happy <3

I'm a graphic design student who just finished a HUGE typographic school project on which I spent 9 hours on today only (I don't dare to think what the total hour count would be) and what's next? An oekaki drawing with typography, of course! It's like I couldn't get enough of this stuff. :B
I wanted to clutter this with textures but in the end it looked better this way, so... Maybe next time.
Anyone recognize those lyrics? ;)
Thursday, March 24th 2011, 11:51 PM

Asdfghhh FINALLY. I'll never do style experiments again, they take too much time and end up looking not so good. ;_; Oh well, I had fun sketching and coloring, until I decided to try something new for the shadows...
Monday, March 21st 2011, 7:28 PM
I so love how you did the white lighting on their hair & clothes. and everything in the background is so well drawn!
Wednesday, March 23rd 2011, 12:53 AM
damn the coloring's incredible

Saturday, March 12th 2011, 10:14 PM
Thought I'd finally post this, even though I'm not completely satisfied with it (the colors are my major concern). I'm trying to get a bit faster with oekaki, 6 to 8 hours a drawing is still a bit too much for me. x_x Also, I needed to finish something, no matter how much I love the safety save option. ;)
I've seemed to have some sort of a thing for backlighting lately... :o
Sunday, March 13th 2011, 2:51 AM
your shading is SO NICE ufgs I'm having trouble finding the right words to describe its awesomeness.
Sunday, March 13th 2011, 6:45 AM
all round gorgeous, especially the eyes and lips and that SHIRT
Monday, March 14th 2011, 1:26 AM
you're so good at backgrounds and i love that you can draw pictures that look like they have entire stories behind them.
and you just dream and dream and dream |
Friday, March 4th 2011, 1:27 PM
Oh gosh, I love it how the safety saves stores for 60 days! I like to start new drawings whenever the inspiration hits me and then finish them later, and since I have two months to finish them there's no need to hurry and unf <3 I love every little thing on this board!
This is something started purely from the feeling, I wanted to draw something warm and sensual, a little bit India inspired with tons of layers and patterns with lots of orange and red tones. I had no idea it would turn out like this. :)
Adulted for nudity, btw.
Friday, March 4th 2011, 3:11 PM
love the background and her curls
Friday, March 4th 2011, 3:24 PM

Woooow your artwork is beyond amazing!
tryout #2 |
Wednesday, March 2nd 2011, 3:02 PM
Here comes the second tryout. Ughhh 7 hours on an oekaki drawing is way too much for me, I really don't know what to say anymore. Usually I spent 3-4 hours with my oekakis or tegakie pictures.
I hope it's fullbody enough (I get fed up drawing standing poses quite quickly so here's a little bit variation) and hope you'll like and and and
LET THE VOTING BEGIN! :D
(Oh yeah, almost forgot to post the link to the first tryout:

Saturday, March 5th 2011, 2:15 AM
the lighting is so pretty and that teeny dragon is so adorable ;___; I love your art!!
Saturday, March 5th 2011, 7:10 AM
I love your artwork, and if could vote you in, I totally would but voting is over and I'm not an accepted member...
But I do have a few crits on this one.
The anatomy on the dragon's feet seem a little off, and you could've put a bit more work into the wings. =P
Also, the photographer doesn't appear to have a neck. I'm not sure if there's a turtleneck sweater of what, but usually you can see at least a little bit of the neck, even when crouching etc. And you could've tried making the camera a little more stuctured. It almost looks like you could bend it. Other than that though, the anatomy/shading/composition is all here, and I think you did an excellent job on bringing the piece together =)
Saturday, March 5th 2011, 1:18 PM
Thanks for the crit Nightwolf!
I could have worked on this one more, I just got so fed up with it in the end. But thank you, and if I'll ever edit this I'll definitely keep those things in mind. :)

Tuesday, February 22nd 2011, 9:35 PM
Hello SR, I used to draw here when there were still 5 tryouts required, which was... in 2006? That's the date on my old tryouts at least, I still have them saved, haha. ^^; I can't believe it's been so long. Recently I've been wanting to draw oekakis again and thought I'd register here again. :)
So here's my tryout #1, a friend's character Mikami and my Diana, and their budding romance ♥ Hope you'll like it!
Tuesday, February 22nd 2011, 9:48 PM
this is really pretty!! i like how you drew their faces
something about the girl's right leg (our left) looks off, her knee looks like it's pointed almost directly forward but her foot is turned out a little
Tuesday, February 22nd 2011, 9:56 PM

this is great :)
really loving the color palette, especially in the background
glad to have you trying out again... I miss the heydays where people would produce stuff as good as this on a regular basis
Wednesday, February 23rd 2011, 11:41 AM
the way the guy is posed looks a bit awkward but other than that this is great!
Wednesday, February 23rd 2011, 10:40 PM
good luck (you'll totally get in)
Friday, February 25th 2011, 1:24 AM
the coloring is beautiful, but her leg looks like it's got a compound fracture. otherwise beautiful pic good luck
Friday, February 25th 2011, 10:16 PM
Thanks for all the lovely comments and critique, guys <3
I edited her leg a little, hope it looks a bit better now. There's not much I can do anymore though, the texure and shading might get ruined. :/ Should probably use photoshop for more detailed editing but oh well. Glad you seem to like it anyways ^^;
Saturday, February 26th 2011, 6:33 AM
oh my ! I see so much detail and it's super amazing. Especially that sky~
But uhmuhm psst you're nawt suppose to edit them after you submit them
Saturday, February 26th 2011, 5:20 PM
Oh, really? There was nothing about editing tryouts in the rules so I thought I might as well edit the leg a little bit since it started bothering me and it was a really small change.
Saturday, February 26th 2011, 7:36 PM
really? ahh i'm sorry >o<
Saturday, February 26th 2011, 11:14 PM
It's ok, no harm done. ^^, I know there might be some unwritten rules so it's ok to note about things like that~
