so the reason I didn't draw a full background is because I noticed the themes on this site are all sky scenes :D
anywho, I realized Joel's thighs were too long after it was too late >.<

once again, didn't spend 7 hours on this. I spent at least 6 hours with my boyfriend XD

Very cool concept. Also funny idea to just use the BG of the site itself as a BG. Would've never thought of that. However, not sure if it's good to do that for a tryout but we'll see what other members think; I actually like how it looks.

On the fox (?) character, he looks a little stiff and rigid and his arms a little noodley, as if his elbow isn't a solid joint / were made of play-doh or something. More definitive and less smooth lines, or perhaps even folds of skin, would help fix that to give the elbow a little more structure. As for stiffness of pose, a slight more of a curve would help that too.

All in all I vote 3rd. Definately have potential but I don't think we've seen it at its fullest yet.

I just logged so I can see how it looks with the space theme and it's awesome with it.
Awesome idea!

As inventive as it is, using the site's theme as a bg, the idea of having to make a bg, is so we can see how good you are at it, so this doesn't really work for a tryout, imho.
Anatomy-wise this pic is a bit odd, Worm pointed out some issues, and the human's upper legs are way too long.
And I'm not really seeing any logic in the shading either, where does the light come from?
Drawing characters from the side all the time doesn't really work for me either, so please draw your next one in some other/another view(s)
Because I do like your style, and I really enjoyed your first tryout, so I do think you've got it in you... I just want to see you do it, so I vote third

yeah...lol
soo...do I have to wait for more comments or something before drawing my second tryout?

SockRockets Wednesday, May 25th 2011, 4:44 AM

unless you want to wait for critiques you don't have to wait to do the second one

mkay. I guess I'll wait a little longer, see if I can get some more feedback

Considering this is a self portrait, it might help if you took a photo of yourself in the same pose so that we can compare and contrast the anatomy and the like, as far as critique goes.

Love the gorgeous and shapely legs, though I think the arms and legs might be a little on the long side compared to the torso, and the hands a bit small.

I'd like to see more of a backround on the next tryout as well but so far so good! Love the grayscale, the millions of little details, the simplicity!

I did use a photo reference o.o

She meant show US the photo ref. ;)

I agree that the arms and legs seem a little too long and that the hands seem small. I very much enjoy the background and the use of texture in this piece, as well as just the overall tone. Good luck!

I did measure my legs/arms in comparison to my torso and head and it measures out the same as in this picture, and I'm not going to show the photo ref because I don't want to upload it >.<
