This is screaming archive to me. Those flowers, especially the ones to the right of the butterfly, are incredibleeee. And, of course, the butterfly itself is awesome.

Wow this looks great!

Though it's kind of silly to mention you're sorry then move blame elsewhere, just kinda awkward owo; Nice colours though! Maybe if you had darkened the background, or brightened the butterfly just a bit? It would make it really pop from being flat, nice job either way

I disagree with the archive but I am obviously the minority rofl and it's still very obvious that you put a lot of work into this. JUST PERSONALLY, if it's realism I guess I have higher standards unless it's like really intricate and mind-blowing. Not saying this is bad, it just looks a little plain and it'd have been cool if you added neato personal touches so it looks less photo-copied D: That's a subjective crit but eh, is still a cool butterfly so congrats

Holly Friday, May 15th 2009, 2:09 AM
avatar
I agree with you completely , I dont think its an archive either XD, but its not often I like my own work. Thanks for the advice sarya , I will take it into account with the next pic I do.

Thanks a hell of a lot you guys for the nice comments <3

rhaz- I was apologising for my responding and continuing and my 50% of it :)

i don't really know what the brown thing is or what its doing but i think this has more potential of an archive than your last picture.

Its a plant.Thanks.

this is a much better example of what could be archive worthy than your last one, although i agree with sarya on the crits -- its hard to deal with realism and archiving it you know, because it just looks like a photo copy, and thats not really your own art unless you took the photos you used for reference. this is a lot better though.

Holly Friday, May 15th 2009, 2:28 AM
avatar
Would it matter if my own pictures were used =p? If you think about it im still going to be using the same oekaki tools, colours etcetc, to try and create the identical picture, and that is the area I personally would consider "art".
There are many different forms of art than expressive or creative, i guess this is one of them eh?
Thanks for the comment.

song seven Friday, May 15th 2009, 2:34 AM
avatar
well i didn't mean its not art or anything, i just mean that someone else took the photo you copied. youre just copying someone elses piece of art, really, and even if the copying is a process of art its not actually all that expressive or creative, since someone captured this image first. throughout the art classes ive taken in high school and college, its REALLY really looked down on to tdraw from photos if you didn't take the photos yourself, you know?

Holly Friday, May 15th 2009, 2:40 AM
avatar
I understand where your coming from, but disagree. But your entitled to your opinion as am to mine , so i respect that.
Mabye Ill draw one of my own peices next time.

kurasii Friday, May 15th 2009, 2:49 AM
"its REALLY really looked down on to tdraw from photos if you didn't take the photos yourself"

?? I've never heard that before, wow. I'm in an art class right now, and it's encouraged to draw from anything in life. Sounds stupid, though.

song seven Friday, May 15th 2009, 2:53 AM
avatar
kurasii, theres a huge diff between drawing from life and drawing from a photo (to me anyways) drawing from life is totally A++++ and is what helps people improve because drawing from something thats real and 3-d in front of you helps you learn a lot more than if you just draw from a photo, and drawing from someone elses photo is bad because like vani said its basically like plagiarism? IDK, thats what i've always been taught in school so it might be different in different places?

Dobie Friday, May 15th 2009, 3:00 AM
avatar
i've been taught that drawing from photos is ok if you have to but it's kind of a poor excuse, if you draw from someone else's photo you should do something new with it and be pretty blatant that it's not yours but it's not like morally wrong or anything. learning from photos can give you some bad habits that you won't pick up from life drawing because life drawing is 3d

also i don't think this is archive worthy, just my two cents. it's a very good picture ... but imo archives need to be spectacular in everything, idea/color/composition they can't just be really pretty realism

Holly Friday, May 15th 2009, 3:04 AM
avatar
Vani- On my previous picture, I only got offended because the comment was rude. Not offended that the person didnt think it archive worthy. But i dont want to get into that AGAIN.

Vani/Dobie- I personally find drawing from still life, really helps my skills in drawing and compositions . I choose to draw pictures in an attempt at identical because I personally like the pictures better. If i make something up i will most probably not like the outcome.

Dobie Friday, May 15th 2009, 3:08 AM
avatar
yeah still life is life drawing, it helps because it's in front of you and it's 3d

kurasii Friday, May 15th 2009, 3:09 AM
I'm in a high school art class atm with an excellent artist as my teacher, who has been teaching and drawing for 25+ years..... he doesn't find anything wrong with drawing from a photo (sorry, by "life", I meant basically everything, not necessarily an actual figure/object in front of you)

And I don't see anything wrong with it UNLESS you draw the photo and then turn around and try to sell it, THAT'S wrong but I see NOTHING wrong with just... doing this for fun.

I dunno if I agree on people bringing up the fact that this was referenced from a photo into the consideration of if it deserves an archive or not.......... because heck, if it's good, then it's good and should get an archive. Not any joe blow without experience can replicate a photo like this.

keeko Friday, May 15th 2009, 3:10 AM

yep lets start this train up again

kurasii Friday, May 15th 2009, 3:13 AM
I agree with that, Vani. If anything it can be medium practice to duplicate a photo, but it doesn't really do much for you. And drawing from models is a lot of fun......and great practice :D

I draw+paint off the computer, without still life pictures, I jsut find it more enjoyable to do so on the computer thats all :D.
I understand where your coming from most defiantley , i usually cant come up with many ideas in front of a computer screen though =p, I like to go out and paint crap haha XD.

Lets NOT keeko.

Being overly sarcy gets you banned, i didnt know that did you.
Who knows?

We dont get along keeko , so theres no point in trying, can you just not post on my pictures. I dont mind u critting me, but theres no point in posting any conversational ones. I think you and I both know we will only end up argueing.

Thanks very much coco appreciate it!

I know, but i thikn weve agreed anyway to stay out of each others ways .That should sort it .

well i've seen worse some people only copy pictures...this kid in my science class is like that. He copies anime pictures and calls it art.

anywho congrats on the archive! this is much better than the last one you did, for sure.

I READ ALL THESE COMMENTS!
One of my teachers wouldn't look at my artwork if It wasn't drawn from anothers' photograph because he wouldn't know what the picture was SUPPOSED to look like...or something stupid like that.
