This was a huge experiment for me, so your crits are very welcome. I would have had backlighting from the craters, but I couldn't make it fit with the rest of his shading, so I left it out. I also never draw backgrounds, so I tackled that aspect as best I could.

I feel that the face could use more detail, and his leg farthest from uss looks like it's out of the socket. Other than that I really like this. I look forward to your next one. :>

I also think that you could have made more detail into the face. You should have also tried to shade with more depth and detail and perhaps play with the colors a bit. Looking at the background and then the character, the colors seem like they don't clash with each other, the shading is kind of eh. It could have been done better, though it's relatively clean. It's a nice style. The background could have also been worked on, you could have tried to emphasize the roughness of the volcanoes/floor by using a rough-like texture with pencil or just shade it a bit more with pen. The clouds are nice and have a unique look to it, but again, it would have been better if you spend some time to try to make the clouds blend in with the color of the sky better. Anatomy wise, it's off, his balance is kind of weird, I don't know if he's taking big steps or what but it looks kind of odd.It looks like he's about to fall back. His arms would be rather long as well. Fingers end at the crotch area, and if his arms were to be hanging down on his sides it would be way too long. But it might just be a style, it's still quite good. I give you props for drawing feet, it looks relatively good. I may give a red line a bit later, because I don't have it with me.. This picture overall has a good sense of balance to it, I like how you set the canvas, it looks really nice. The pose you made him in makes him look quite mischievous, I'm rather fond by it. The lineart is really crisp and good, and the shading technique is also very interesting. Good luck with your other entries. :).

To me, things look a bit sloppy. The background and shading on your character look rushed through, yet I still like that you attempted to draw a background which you say you haven't quite accomplished getting down yet. What I'd like to see in your next tryout is more shading--Like I said, it looks sloppy, but it also would look better if you had more depth to the shades. If you know what you're doing, try adding some blues to the shading as well. Also, for where the person is at, I wouldn't think he'd stand out that much. Since it's dark out, wouldn't he be a tad bit dark, too? And the surroundings should be where he gets the light so they'd bounce back to him. Ah, I'm terrible at explaining myself and I hope I'm not being too harsh. Can't want to see your next tryout :)

oops. i left the applet running. uhh my tooth hurts AND i have a question is.. there any way i can get pen pressure for oekaki apart from jtablet? 'cuz it won't work. i downloaded all the wacom shet and it works fine in photoshop but.. not on oekaki my tablet's a toshiba and i have windows vista

I had to get up at 6am this morning to go work a garage sale. D': It was a neighborhood thing to raise money for two families with two little girls who were recently diagnosed with cancer :< (the only reason I did it) ANYHOW pretty much our whole neighborhood donated things. (I live in a giant neighborhood btw) So there was crap-loads of stuff. I had fun perusing. SO, I found these brand new slippers, still in in the package and I was like "minez" I went to go buy them and they were only a buck :'D Next to the two DVD's I bought (also a buck each) this was my favorite purchase I've ever made. They're unbelievably comfy and of so groovy. I had to draw me. I look ridiculous in my mismatching outfit with my tube jeans and enormous fuzzy slippers. Lulz. I forgot to emphasize the fuzzy in the picture but just imagine it. They're mondo fuzzy. Like I'm wearing two Main Coon's on my feet :> 'Cept not. <3

I figured my fursona needed a ref sooner or later... People always mess up the markings on her paws for some reason; natually assuming black is on her paws rather then her wrists. XD Ah well.

okay, obviously this isn't my second tryout. But I have deduced it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to actually complete the freaking thing. This afternoon I did the smoke/fire effects FIVE TIMES. Because the applet wouldn't send. So I finally figured, "well, i'll just leave the applet running while i leave." (i was attending my sister's graduation) and I got back... and the applet froze. But oh well - i had only gotten the spikes on the dragon done along with the fifth smoke/fire crap. So i went to edit again. this time i ALMOST got finished. So I took a screenshot, because this is the absolute FARTHEST I can get on my second tryout, and I would like to know if this still counts or if I have to do a third one. Because right now I am absolutely fed up with oekaki. >:( I'm sorry if it doesn't count, but this is just making me extremely frustrated. One can only do so many smoke effects in oekaki in a single day without going crazy.

Honestly, I don't know if I'm not even allowed to SAY this here, but I'd like to see a third one. I don't think you should even have to finish that one, especially as you've shown such dedication to attempting to finish it, and already I can see that your shading, anatomy, and background skills are pretty much awesome. I only ask for a third because your first tryout is a little dissatisfactory to me. Both lion cubs just look like they're floating there, and the background doesn't do anything for me. The anatomy is pretty nice, I think, though.

YEAH honestly i dont know what were supposed to do, but i think if you just want us to vote on it i'd say third as well.

about uploading - i might be able to finish it if someone knew how to remove the brown background. I'm pretty good with working on layers using multiply, but that requires a white background to work on. I don't think Parody should absolutely have to finish his tryouts. I mean, we can see from his first tryout its at least close to intermediate, and I'm sure if this was totally done it would be getting tons of ins. I myself can tell the Parody is intermediate. Of course, I'm only one vote, and its up to staff. :P

I can see that Parody (he?) is accurate with detail and the tools, along with good anatomy with quad and human. I dont see why we couldn't make an exception. :3

I'm not accepted here or known here or anything here, but I lurk every so often and I've really got to say that I think your nearly completed tryout is definitely one of the most amazing oekakis I've ever seen! The concept is really interesting, the shading is so smooth, and every thing is just ten thumbs up. I, obviously, can't vote or crit or anything, but I'd just really like to put in my two cents and say that I think with a picture like that, you could get into advanced if you wanted to!

If we're going to be using your linked picture as your second tryout (which, going by the situation and what I can see so far of it, would be reasonable- and I'm very sorry that you've been having so many issues with your tryout)... then I would still back up the third tryout notion. AND HERE'S WHY: Your second tryout (or what I can see of it at least) looks wonderful, frankly. If you were to continue with the methods that you were using for the rest of the picture, I think it would have turned out to be quite the impressive piece. My biggest guff is your first tryout, actually! Going by the quality that I'm seeing in your second, it really doesn't seem like you were putting your full effort into the first piece. That, and the fullbody in your first was essentially hidden by the second figure, so it leaves some things up to question in that respect. So, overall: regardless of whether or not the second piece can be finished, my verdict would likely be the same. Third Tryout.

aghh guys please try to be a little unbiased with your friends tryouts! i know it can be difficult because you want your friends in (i know how it is from personal experience) but you need to remember to treat things as if they are a tryout! and you also should not be voting on what you "know they can do" -- if someone here who everyone knew to be a fantastic artist, but they drew stick figures for a tryout, i would hope you guys would say out! because they know they are supposed to show us their best. i can't critique animals at all so im leaving the anatomy of this tryout up for anyone else to comment on. however, i can get on the other aspects of this -- particularly the shading. its very pillowy, very flat. it doesn't really lend anything to the subjects or make them stand out, and compositionally this piece isn't very eye-catching. the background is nicely rendered, and the figures are cute, but it doesnt really feel like you put a lot of effort into this, honestly? and in your first tryout, the light source is incredibly confusing -- it feels like your just putting highlights and shadows where you think it will look nice, not where you know it should go. the background is also very plain, and just overall its a very very weak tryout picture, which isn't helped by the fact its not a full body. you used nice colors for shading, and i think you have potential. i'm really unsure. i'm leaning towards out but i'll say third tryout, since you said yourself that you don't believe this is the best you are capable of, and i'd like to see you put your best foot forward.

It doesn't matter how great someone's tryout might be- I'm under the impression that if it's not fullbodied, it's not following the rules, and therefore not fair to every other tryouter. So don't take it personally, I just believe in enforcing the full-body rule for everyone. HOWEVER, Kim gives some excellent points. In the current state of mind I'm in, I don't know if I could really offer anything more, so my apologies. FINAL VERDICT FROM ME: Third tryout. Make sure to show us THE BEST of your best. We want to see what you're capable of! And, just re-emphasizing what Kim pointed out: DO NOT, DO NOT VOTE SOMEONE IN SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY'RE YOUR FRIEND. It's not fair to everyone else who's ever been accepted fairly into this oekaki. I'm unsure if it's a fully-decided (that is, approved by eevee1) rule, but I AM sure that every admin here disapproves of this. THIS GOES NOT ONLY FOR THIS USER AND THIS TRYOUT, BUT FOR EVERY USER ON EVERY TRYOUT. It's one of my biggest pet peeves here, so don't do it. BUT BACK TO THE TRYOUTER IN QUESTION: I feel badly for using this mostly as a chance to be an administrative jerk in my comment, so let me just say that WHEN I ACTUALLY WAKE UP, I will attempt to provide you with some helpful critiques!

Personally I don't think you need to do a third tryout- this one has two full body animals , there's no rules that we need both animals and human full bodies xD? We just need to know if you know anatomy (and in these animals, you clearly do!) (that said- everything else is up to standards imo! a few mistakes, but we're only intermediete :B your best will still be in the standards, so I don't really see a point xD)
